10:00 Panel & Small Group Discussions: Developing Resilient Communities in the Face of Environmental Disasters.

Resilience is, simply defined, the capacity of a system to 1) resist damage, and 2) recover quickly. In order for communities to be resilient during and after environmental disasters, vulnerabilities must be addressed on the individual, community, and institutional levels. In response to recent environmental and human-caused disasters, communities have been actively articulating and practicing their own forms of resilience by systematically addressing social inequities, deploying environmental and engineering innovations, engaging community members in identifying and implementing solutions, and developing long-term, comprehensive and integrated urban water management plans.
